Transforming transit infrastructure into healing community spaces for unhoused Black and Brown Portlanders
View MoreLessAfroVillagePDX is a nurturing response to Portland's housing crisis, centering on the needs of Black and Brown communities impacted by systemic barriers. Led by Laquida Landford, AfroVillagePDX weaves together housing justice, digital inclusion, and wellness. The AfroVillage Homebase will be a vibrant hub for healing, featuring healthy food hub, laundry facilities, and a cafe, all inside a repurposed MAX train car transformed into a community space rooted in trauma-informed and culturally responsive design. Partnering with El Dorado Architects, the project envisions a place where community, joy, and connection thrive—offering Black and Brown communities a space to heal, create, and build a brighter future together.
